Puerto Varas - Chile

Situated just 21 km from Puerto Montt on the shores of Lake Llanquihue, Puerto Varas is known as “the city of roses” for its many flower-lined streets. The best way to see the town is to walk from one end to the other and observe their unmistakable German-inspired architecture, modern residential developments and beautiful gardens.

1. Flight:
Flights departs daily from Santiago to El Tepual Airport in Puerto Mont. There are daily flights to and from Santiago every day (about 4 or 5 of them). Double check to see whether it is a direct flight or not though since a lot of them have a stopover somewhere. The two main airlines that come this way are LAN Chile and Sky Airlines. From Puerto Montt you can get a shuttle or taxi to Puerto Varas and other localities in the region.

2. Bus:
Buses depart daily from Santiago to Puerto Montt and Puerto Varas. The trip takes 13 hours, so it is best to revel at night and arrive early in the morning.

Bariloche is the gateway to the Lakes District of northern Patagonia in Argentina. Bariloche sits on the southern shores of Lake Nahuel Huapi in the Nahuel Huapi National Park, 1621 km southwest of Buenos Aires.

Bariloche is close to the Chile border with the Cardenal Antonio Samore Pass crossing the Andes between Chile and Argentina.

1. Flight:
There are regular flights from Buenos Aires to Bariloche Airport with LAN and Aerolineas Argentinas. The occasional flight goes in and out of Ezeiza International Airport (EZE), but most of the flights originate from the Jorge Newbery Airport (AEP – Buenos Aires domestic airport). For international travellers this can be a little inconvenient because it necessitates an hour long transfer via bus or taxi from the international airport to the domestic airport, or an overnight stay in one of the hotels in Buenos Aires.

2. Bus:
Bariloche is a major hub of the Argentina bus system so there are plenty of buses that head to Bariloche. Buses from Buenos Aires leave frequently and the trip to Bariloche takes about 20 to 25 hours.

3. Car:
Take the route from Buenos Aires to Bariloche. The distance is 1621 km.
